My Slot Machine History
“The guy who invented gambling was bright, but the guy who invented
the chip was a genius”. Quoted in Alvin Alvarez, The Biggest
Game in Town (1983)
As I have outlined on my homepage, my slot machine history and ‘connection’
with slot machines goes back several decades, to the 1960s, when I played the
“hold and draw” class of slot machines which were popular at the time
in the downtown casinos of that great gambling mecca – Las Vegas.
Back then also, there was the introduction of three-line-pay machines. With these,
you could either play with a single coin, which allowed only the basic central
row of symbols as the win-line, or you could deposit up to three coins before
pulling, which would allow multiple rows to qualify as win lines. Back in those
days, this was simply tremendous, but now, multiple coin and multiple win-line
slot machines are simply the norm.
The 60s was a significant time period in the history of slots. The introduction
of multiple-coin machines, including the forerunners the “hold and draw”
and the “three-line pay” types, represented what was probably the
most important change in the design of slot machines since they were invented
way back in the 1890s, and a quite significant time in slot machine history.
From the mechanical slots of old to the current generation of machines with their
computer chips, interconnectivity and other modern features, the slot machines
sure have come a long way. Through it all, I have had a great run of fun, lost
some, won some, but generally had great fun and continue to do so. The next step
for me has been to play slots in real time over the Internet.
If you are looking to play slots online, I’ve got two great options
for you:
(1) If you’re looking to play for fun, and without the need to spend a cent
out-of-pocket, simply click the “Launch Game” button that is located
just above and to the right of this text in order to launch my free gambling zone.
Here, you can play three types of slots as well as craps, roulette, blackjack
and video poker for free. No credit card or financial information is required
to play, you simply need to use a valid email address in order to sign up and
start playing.
(2) The second is for those who are looking to play online for real money - $$$.
All across this site, you will see various banners and links, as I advertise online
casinos that offer excellent online casino gaming options as well as a great comp
or free bonus to get you started. Try a couple and have fun!
